Using AI at Ranolf Medical Centre
Ranolf Medical Centre has adopted Heidi, an AI-powered note taker that supports clinicians during consultations by securely capturing medical notes in real time.
Heidi allows your clinician to focus fully on you, spending less time typing and more time listening and engaging.
If you are booked in to see one of our clinicians, you will be advised at the start of your consultation that they would like to use Heidi. The AI note taker will only be used if you give your consent.
Here is some information to help you make an informed decision.
What is AI?
AI stands for artificial intelligence. It refers to computer systems designed to perform tasks that would normally require human intelligence, such as recognising speech, processing language, or analysing information.
In healthcare, AI supports clinicians with documentation and data management, helping to improve accuracy, efficiency, and record-keeping.
How does Heidi work?
Heidi works in the background during your consultation, transcribing the conversation as it happens. This ensures accurate notes are captured without interrupting the natural flow of your visit.
No recordings are ever saved or stored. Only the notes your clinician chooses to save are added to your Electronic Health Record, just as they normally would be.
Do I need to give consent?
Yes. Your consent is essential. All clinicians are encouraged to obtain written consent before using Heidi in your consultation. You may choose not to use Heidi and can withdraw your consent at any time. View the AI Transcribing Tools Consent here.
Who has access to my medical information?
Only your clinician. Heidi complies with the Privacy Act 2020 and the New Zealand Information Privacy Principles. Our systems are ISO27001 certified for data security, and protecting your privacy remains a top priority.
Where is my data stored?
All data is securely encrypted and stored on cloud servers that meet high industry standards. Because cloud infrastructure is limited in New Zealand, data for NZ users is stored in Australia.
How is my data used?
Our approach to data collection follows three core principles:
- Be transparent – We clearly explain how your data is used in our Privacy Policy and Terms
• Limit collection – Only essential information is gathered
• Ensure security – Data access, use, and retention are strictly controlled
Your data is used only to support your care or to improve Heidi’s performance. No recordings are kept.
